
3 August 2011 – SEGi students showed how much they care about the environment and the Earth when they helped plant over 2,000 saplings along the bank of the Damansara River in Shah Alam.
Teams of SEGi students from SEGi College Kuala Lumpur and SEGi University College participated in the tree-planting event called ‘Shah Alam River & Trees for Life’ on 24 July 2011. It was arranged by the main organiser, Eco Warriors Malaysia, and other private and public organisations.
21 July 2011 – SEG International Berhad was appointed by the Malaysian government as Project Leader for a new initiative to bring in foreign trainees and learners to Malaysia. The initiative is called SkillsMalaysia International Technical Education and Vocational Training Programme; in short, SkillsMalaysia INVITE.
This appointment marks the government’s recognition of SEGi’s quality and expertise in providing skills-based training.
14 July 2011 – Dr Sharon Chen, Head of American Degree Program and Director of Research & Innovation Management Centre at SEGi University College, has recently been awarded an Exploratory Research Grant Scheme (ERGS) research grant in the amount of RM50,000 for her research entitled “Cross-Cultural Adaptation of Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) and Work-Related Quality of Life (WRQoL) Scale in Malaysia”.
Dr Sharon will be conducting her study in collaboration with Dr Jamaiyah Haniff (Head of the Clinical Epidemiology Unit in Clinical Research Centre, Ministry of Health Malaysia) and Siau Ching Sin (American Degree Program Lecturer, SEGi University College).
7 July 2011 – It was all about living out loud at SEGi University College on July 7th 2011. Presented by Fly FM as part of Media Prima Radio Network (MPRN)’s CSR initiative, Live.Out.Loud (LOL) brought a truly engaging and inspiring Uni Talk to the students of SEGi.
In line with SEGi University College’s vision of providing more than just a the usual lifestyle to its students, the vibrant Live.Out.Loud Uni Talk presented by Fly FM truly was an enriching, and of course inspiring experience for the lucky students
2 July 2011 – Mr Lee Kok Cheng, SEGi Group CEO, and Emeritus Professor Dr Muhamad Awang, SEGi UC Vice Chancellor, strengthened existing bonds when they met up with the academic staff of The University of Sheffield and University of Sunderland during a 5 day visit to the UK from 27 June to 1 July.
Mr Lee and Professor Muhamad took a first-hand tour of the engineering faculties at The University of Sheffield (TUOS) as well as visited the newly refurbished and upgraded Pharmacy School facilities at the University of Sunderland (UOS). They both felt assured of the top-quality facilities awaiting students who enroll in Engineering programmes under TUOS and the Pharmacy programme under UOS respectively.
2 July 2011 – SEGi College Subang Jaya, in collaboration with the Malaysian Child Resource Institute, organised the Child Advocacy Workshop 2011 on the 2nd of July 2011. The workshop was attended by more than 60 Early Childhood Care & Education degree and diploma students from SEGi College Subang Jaya.
The objectives of the workshop were re to understand the role of a child advocate and the guiding principles while also learning how children's rights provide a powerful framework and a tool for advocacy. Participants also discovered the knowledge and skills to be an effective child advocate and developed an action plan which is aligned to the mission of a child advocate.
2 July 2011 – SEGi students were treated to a free intensive training programme on Java Enterprise Edition (Java EE) under the Undergraduate Skill Programme scheme, conducted by Guidance View training centre.
The training was fully sponsored and coordinated by Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC), targeting SEGi students with a CGPA of above 2.5. A total of 22 students who qualified for the training were exposed to a month long training of basic Java EE, in addition to talks by industry specialists from 6th June till 2nd July 2011.
21 June 2011 – Nothing can define the Generation Y more than the uprising of social networking sites. Knowing how relevant this is to the students, SEGi’s Student Affairs & Alumni Division presented the 1st Student Intellectual Forum 2011 with the topic of “The Impact of Facebook & Twitter on Students” on the 21 of June 2011.
Chaired by Professor Dr. Atiya Ab. Sallam, the Dean for the Faculty of Medicine at SEGi University College, the forum showcased four speakers from the campuses of Kota Damansara, Kuala Lumpur and Subang Jaya. They were Darsyne Selvakumar, Shawn Cai Songcang, Siow Li-Anne and Zainab Hassan Fadlallah. The event was a successful one with a strong turnout of about 180 students occupying the seats.
18 June 2011 – The Vice Chancellor of SEGi University College, Emeritus Professor Dr. Muhamad Awang, had an extensive trip in China which resulted in SEGi establishing a foothold in long-term relations with the established universities. The tour from June 13 to June 17, 2011 included stops at four universities in Guangzhou and Hezhou.
Professor Muhamad signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Guangxi University of Nationalities, followed by Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with three other universities he visited during the tour: Guangxi Medical University, Hezhou University, and Guangxi Vocational & Technical University.
