The pledge was made out through Yayasan Pendidikan Bistari, a foundation set up for the purposes of helping bumiputera youths in obtaining education and training.

The mock cheque which signified the RM1,000,000 pledge was handed over to Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Tun Hussein, UMNO Youth Chief and Minister of Education, Malaysia by Datuk Clement Hii, Group CEO of SEGi Group of Colleges. The event, which coincided with the 4th Subang UMNO divisional delegates conference was held at SEGi College main campus at Kota Damansara. Also present were YB Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Ahmad Dahlan, Head of Subang UMNO Division and other divisional UMNO leaders.

Datuk Mokhtar, in his welcome address applauded SEGi College for boldly embracing the challenge to shape world class professionals through quality education, in line with the government’s aim to produce first class graduates. He said that the toughest challenge nowadays is to change the mindset and paradigm of society today, and motivate the bumiputera community to strive for better outcomes.

Datuk Seri Hishammuddin shared his vision to develop a more harmonious and prosperous country led by an honest and sincere party who strives for everyone. He also praised SEGi for doing its part, as a private education provider, to complement the efforts of the Government in ensuring that Malaysian youths are qualified and skilled to face the challenges of the future.

“Our pledge is part of our Corporate Social Responsibility where we believe that education is for everyone, irregardless of social status or background,” said Hii. “Our donation to UMNO is in an indication of our support for UMNO Youth’s agenda to help underprivileged youths.”

“We realise that not all bumiputera students will be fortunate enough to further their studies in local IPTAs. We pledged our courses to Yayasan Pendidikan Bistari to give opportunities for bumiputera students to complete their diploma and undergraduate education.

“Our goal is to substantially increase the representation of Bumiputera students in the college in addition to providing a complete learning experience”, added Hii.

With this scholarship donation, bumiputera youths are able to further their studies in the fields of Business and Accountancy, Engineering and Technology, Creative Arts and Design, Education and Social Sciences, Hotel Management and Tourism, and Nursing. The programmes offered are diploma or approved 3+0 degree programmes.

According to Hii, currently there are many bumiputera students studying at SEGi who have benefited from the Bumiputera Education Fund, a financial aid for the College’s students.

Besides, SEGi’s Bumiputera Grant entitles qualified students to tuition waiver of up to 70% off tuition fees starting from the commencement date until the completion of their studies, subject to terms and conditions. Students are also given allowances by the foundation.
