2nd August 2007 - SEGi College has for three decades exerted efforts in creating the opportunity for all walks of life to obtain life long quality education.

Through all kinds of programmes and aids, the Group has ease the chances for higher education for everyone. Amongst those lucky are bumiputera students who have benefited from the Bumiputera Education Grant.

Faten Nadiah Roslan is a second year (3rd semester) student in the Diploma in Accountancy programme at SEGi College, Malaysia. “When I enrolled in SEGi College, I just shifted to KL from Labuan. The transition period was very much alleviated with the assistance from the grant.”

“I am very happy studying here in SEGi College. I was previously studying in the PJ campus, but have recently transferred to this new flagship in Kota Damansara. The facilities in the college are superb. I have no complaints,” Faten added.

Another student who enjoys the benefit of the grant is Tengku Muhd. Mikhail, 19, a newly-enrolled student who is taking Diploma of Business Administration in SEGi College, Malaysia, said,” I heard about SEGi College since I was in school. I chose to study in SEGi College because of its great reputation. I wanted to get the feel, first-hand, of studying in the prestigious college.”

SEGi College is committed to providing a lifelong learning mission providing quality education through professional and efficient services, recognised products, excellent student support and a caring environment.

“I discovered that I am able to concentrate my studies solely in the field. I have tried comparing to other friends elsewhere, and found out that whilst they are still studying the basics and general fields of business, I have already progressed to learning about accounting,” Faten enthused.

“I find it easy to learn and understand subjects here as the lecturers are so helpful and friendly, they will explain and enlighten us until we fully understand the particular class topic. Additional homework and assignments are available upon request. I am really thankful for the marvellous lecturers as they make the class interesting and exciting. My favourite subject is Math and everything that involves counting!” continued Faten.

Mikhail said, “I chose to study DiBA because this is the closest course to my passion which is economics. I think that so far, there are no prominent local colleges or universities offering the niche so I decided to enrol in SEGi for their reputable business studies to learn about business.“

When asked about future plans, Mikhail said, ”I hope that I will be able to take a degree course that specialises in economics. I am very interested in local and international economy. Maybe SEGi College will be able to start their economic studies to cater for passionate student like us too.”

The SEGi College Bumiputera Education Grant is a fund to upgrade qualification and skills for qualified bumiputera youths. The grant is offered to students who are pursuing their diploma studies and 3+0 Degree courses.

The grant provides financial aid for potential and qualified Bumiputera students to further their studies at institutions of higher learning in the fields of Business and Accountancy, Engineering and Technology, Creative Arts and Design, Education and Social Sciences, Hotel Management and Tourism, and Nursing.

“We realise that not all bumiputera students will be fortunate enough to further their studies in local IPTAs. We offer the Dana Pendidikan Bumiputera to give opportunities for bumiputera students to complete their undergraduate education.
Our goal is to substantially increase the representation of Bumiputera students in the college in addition to providing the best in education quality”, said Hajjah Roswati Rahmat, Director of Regulatory Affairs, SEGi Group of Colleges.

The education grant is also designed to assist students who may otherwise not have an opportunity to attend tertiary education due to educational, financial or other disadvantage. It is made available for each bumiputera student to ensure smooth transition for its students.
SEGi’s Bumiputera Grant also entitles qualified students to tuition waiver of up to 50% off tuition fees starting from the commencement date until the completion of their studies, subject to terms and conditions.
“Students are given up to 70% subsidy off their tuition fees, with additional allowance of up to RM5,000. Our grant is offered to all bumiputera students who are interested in pursuing their diploma or degree studies in any of our SEGi College campuses. Of course, as all other scholarship and grants, we do set minor requirements prior to qualifying the students for the grant,” said Roswati.

A minimum requirement of 3 credits in the latest SPM results is prerequisite in qualifying for the grant on a diploma programme. As for degree programmes, a student must possess at least 2 principals in their latest STPM results or a minimum 5 credits in SPM with A-Level, Foundation, or Pre-University qualification.

SEGi’s diploma and 3+0 degree programmes are recognised and approved by the National Accreditation Board (LAN) and the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE).

Apart from the Bumiputera Education Grant, SEGi College also offers scholarships such as the Higher Achievers Scholarship (HAS) to students with outstanding SPM results, SEGi Sports Scholarship and assists students in need of monetary assistance to apply for the PTPTN loan.
