14th April 2008 - Close to 200 students of the University of Southern Queensland celebrated years of hard work during the graduation last month in Nikko Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.

Conferring the awards was Mrs. Bobbie Brazil, Chancellor of the University of Southern Queensland. Also present for the ceremony were Professor William Lovegrove – Vice Chancellor and Mr. John Dornbusch – Deputy Chancellor.

The graduates for the day were made out of postgraduate graduates and degree graduates from the Arts, Business, Education, Engineering and Surveying, and Sciences. Mrs. Bobbie Brazil congratulated the graduates for their achievement and encouraged them to continuously seek new knowledge during the course of their lifetime.

SEGi College and the University of Southern Queensland have built a partnership that has lasted over 10 years. This partnership has brought forth many popular programmes in to Malaysia such as the Bachelor of Business programme and the Master of Business Administration.

As a mark of the years of steady partnership, USQ made a special presentation in acknowledgement of the long service of Ms. Doreen Dorville to SEGi College. Dorville has been with SEGi College for a number of years, and in recognition of this long period of service, and a commitment to ongoing study and education, USQ International and SEGi College have joined to award Dorville a scholarship to study her Masters of Business Administration with USQ.

“We congratulate Ms. Dorville on her achievement, and wish her all the best in her studies with USQ,” said Mrs. Brazil.

Receiving the scholarship award was an emotional moment for Dorville. Graduating with a business degree some 2 years ago from the University of Bolton, the MBA scholarship represents another milestone in her career and personal life.

“I am pleased and in awe of having been selected to receive the scholarship. I believe I can do it, as I have done it before while studying for my degree. With the support from family, friends, USQ and SEGi, I am sure I would be able to achieve the MBA,” said Dorville in full confidence. “I thank the university and SEGi for their faith in me.”

SEGi College in collaboration with USQ offers the highly popular 3+0 Bachelor of Business recognised degree programme by the Ministry of Higher Education and the Malaysian Qualification Agency. What more, the MBA is also an approve programme.

“The Bachelor of Business programme is popular amongst Malaysian students seeking an Australian degree programme. You can choose to specialise in either Administrative Management, Marketing or Human Resource Management,” said Dr. Lisa Tan, Principal of SEGi College Subang Jaya.

“Our 3+0 programmes are industry-driven, tailored to meet the specs and requirements of employers. The programmes we offer are of international standards and quality, applicable not only in Malaysia but also the rest of the world,” Tan ascertained.

Other than the Bachelor programme, the MBA programme is suitable for working adults as it is tailored to the expanding demands for highly qualified personnel within the working industry.

“Though some may think that an MBA is no longer a mark of excellence, nevertheless the qualification paired with relevant experience and proven organisational achievements indicate flexibility, creativity, self-motivation, personal effectiveness and a range of other qualities needed to succeed in an organisational environment. As a matter of fact, the MBA is a qualification highly sought after by employers,” explained Tan.

The USQ MBA programme offers 5 areas of specialisation, giving most working adults a wide range to choose from. The specialisations are in Finance, Human Resource Management, General Management, Marketing and Information Systems.  Candidates may also opt for direct study for specialisations in E-Business, Project Management, Leadership, Accounting, Personal Financial Planning, Law and International Business.
