USQ Celebrated Graduation with 74 SEGi Students

1st April 2007 74 proud SEGi College students walked up to the stage at the Grand Ballroom of Nikko Hotel to receive their degrees and master degrees. “It is a great honour to see our students graduating. They have worked so hard to achieve what they have today. I am so proud of them,” said Lee Kok Cheng, Chief Operating Officer of SEGi International Bhd and Principal of SEGi College Subang Jaya.   SEGi College partners the University of Southern Queensland in support of twinning degree programmes of the Bachelor of Business (Human Resource Management), Bachelor of Business (Administrative Management) and the Bachelor of Business (Marketing). The degree programmes are approved and recognised by LAN and the Ministry of Higher Education.

The MBA course at SEGi College enables students to graduate with USQ accreditation and allow them to virtually access the online library and resources through the internet.

“The course coordinator keeps in touch with module leaders, mirroring the course verbatim. It is to ensure the standards of USQ MBA are maintained for students offshore,” said Lee.

One of the top MBA graduates, John Lam said “I am so honoured to be a part of this grand graduation.”

The IT Infrastructure Project Manager said the he has been working in the IT field for the past five years. “Juggling time between work and studies had been a constant struggle. However, being disciplined and pacing myself throughout each semester was important.”

Lam thinks that the MBA programme provides good balance between theoretical framework, and real life practical exposure. Students are well supported by the faculty members of both SEGi College and USQ.

“The range of specialisation offered by USQ in its MBA programme is a plus point for someone wishing to have that added edge in a MBA degree. SEGi should be recommended for its effort in continuously

improving its programme delivery, as well as the student facilities at SEGi College. I truly enjoyed my classes there,” added Lam.

Janice Foo, another outstanding graduate of USQ MBA who graduated in MBA general management shows satisfaction with the programme. “Apart from the knowledge I gained, I had opportunities to meet course mates from various backgrounds and experiences, developing networks and learning from each other through group discussion and classes.”

“I have to say self discipline is very important as I have a tight schedule. Being in the IT industry is hard for me to leave my office on time. Therefore, sacrificing my sleep and leisure time is inevitable,” explained Foo when asked about her time management.

Selected programmes from the University of Southern Queensland are available through its 3+0 twinning partnership with SEGi College. Diploma graduates from the college are also able to articulate into degrees from the university in the discipline of business. Management, education, mass communication and engineering among others.

The Good University Guides for Australian universities rated the postgraduate programme at the University of Southern Queensland 5-star rating for positive graduate outcomes and success in getting a job. The university also won the Commonwealth Open Learning 2004 award. Its postgraduate programmes are also highly rated for graduate starting salary and educational experience.

The new flagship campus at Kota Damansara, SEGi College Malaysia, is in the final stages of completion and would be operational by mid-2007. The campus has a capacity of 12,000 students and will redefine the meaning of SEGi’s complete learning experience.
