SEGi One of the Top Knowledge Management Practitioners

19th December 2005, Kuala Lumpur - SEG International Bhd (SEGi) emerged fourth place amongst the six finalists at the Malaysian Emerging Knowledge Organisation (MEKO) 2005 competition held recently.

The MEKO award was organised by JT Frank Academy Sdn Bhd in support of the Malaysian K-based Economy Master Plan (2001 to 2100) and the 9 th Malaysia Plan (2006 to 2010). The objective of the award is to recognise Malaysian companies and organisations that practise knowledge management to enhance personal, team and organisational performance and competitive advantage.

The other finalists are HCM Engineering Sdn Bhd, Overseas Assurance Corporation (M) Bhd, Sunway City Berhad, TFS EMS Sdn Bhd and Orisoft Technology Bhd. Only specially selected organisations are allowed to enter for the MEKO, and awards are given based on criteria, challenges and practices of measurement.

Accepting the award during the Practice of Knowledge Management (POKM) 2005 conference held in Kuala Lumpur , Puan Hajjah Roswati Bt. Rahmat, Senior Manager of Regulatory Affairs of SEGi, said, “It is important for us to be motivated, to have self initiative and attitude in building a successful organisation.”

The POKM 2005 conference is the platform set for companies and organisations to learn about the knowledge management successes from the organisations who have won the MEKO award.

As one of the largest private tertiary education providers in Malaysia, SEGi offers a comprehensive range of programmes of certificate, diploma, 2+1 degrees of a wide range of disciplines ranging from business, accountancy, finance, engineering, information technology, creative arts, design and early childhood education.

The extensive programmes and operations are managed and aided by the use of its www.segi2u.edu.my portal. The college has also set-up learning zones and a centralised knowledge back in its campus.

Other than developing the knowledge management at their workplace, SEGi has also assisted many other organisations in employee training and development through their Valued Corporate Partnership (VCP) programme.

“SEGi has collaborated with over 200 VCPs over the past 2 years. We are involved in the training and upgrading of employees of our VCPs, and we also look at developing job placements and exchange of enterprise knowledge amongst our VCPs,” said Roswati. “For some VCPs, we also look at upgrading the academic qualification or skills of their family members.”

Organisations who collaborate with SEGi under the VCP programme are Avon , Golden Hope Plantations, KFC Holdings, Kumpulan Karangkraf, and so on.

SEGi Colleges provide certificate, diploma and degree qualifications to nearly 16,000 students throughout Malaysia.
