SEGi College Penang is moving to a new campus in Green Hall this February 2007 to provide better education and facilities to its students.

“As we will be moving to a new campus to serve our students better, we have upgraded our facilities to ensure that students feel at ease while studying. The facilities at our new campus in Green Hall will definitely give our student a brand new learning experience,” said Jeffrey Goh, Principal of SEGi College Penang.

The campus in Green Hall will include more than 15 purposed built classrooms, well designed lobby and lounge area, new resource centre, cafeteria, one floor of dedicated IT labs, 2 floors of car park bays, large auditorium with sea view, games and recreational area.

“Convenient facilities are available around SEGi College Penang. It is located close to eateries, banks, shopping malls, public amenities and its easy access to public transport is a plus point for students. The island life is also an ideal student lifestyle with an easygoing space, fresh air and affordable standard of living,” added Goh.

“We want our students to not only enjoy their life studying with us, that’s why we choose to move in to this new campus where students can assess to our new facilities which is more complete compared to our old campus. To us, providing better learning experience is our responsibility,” said Goh.

“Higher education is essential to everyone as it is a way for us to better our potential and increase our competitiveness in the working world. However, not everyone has the opportunity to do so. As one of the most prominent education providers in Malaysia, we believe it is our responsibilities to help those less fortunate who work hard on their studies,” added Goh.

SEGi College has for years been awarding deserving Malaysians with the opportunity to further their education. The Colleges have set up a High Achiever Scholarship (HAS) fund for top scorers for selected programmes of SEGi, as well as for the underprivileged students who work hard in their studies. SEGi awards full and partial scholarships.

“SPM leavers will be able to enjoy the scholarships SEGi College Penang offers such as full and partial scholarships. Students will also be able to apply for the PTPTN loan. For the diplomas that SEGi College Penang offers, students will be given a free laptop while studying with SEGi College Penang,” said Goh.

When asked, Goh explained “Full scholarship for the entire duration of their studies for selected courses at SEGi will be granted to those who score straight ‘A’s of 10 subjects and above in SPM. Partial scholarship will also be granted to those who score 8 and 9 A’s in their SPM exams. Besides, we also offer a rebate of RM500 for each ‘A’ one score in the SPM.”

The College also offers a wide variety of programmes ranging from foundation, diploma, degree, professional courses and vocational training.

The College has twinning arrangements with the University of Abertay Dundee, UK to offer the BA (Hons) Business Administration, BA (Hons) Accountancy & Finance and BA (Hons) Marketing.

The Year 1 of each twinning programme would also require students to take on 5 elective modules for their area of specialisation. Elective modules for the Business Administration programme are Law, Business & Management in Context, Management Accounting, Principles and Practice of Marketing, Marketing of Services and Managerial Economics. For the Accountancy & Finance programme, elective modules are Introductory Management Accounting, Financial Accounting, Management Accounting Technique, Accounting Information Systems and Taxation 1. As for the Marketing programme, the elective modules are Business & Management in Context, Law, Management Accounting, Principles and Practice of Marketing, and Managerial Economics.

According to Goh, the chance for students to study the degree programme without having to go to the UK translates into huge cost savings. Students need not worry about the quality of education received as it is controlled by the University and College. SEGi’s centralised exams department is ISO9001:2000 certified ensuring students of high academic standards.

The pre-requisites for the UAD programmes are the qualifications of Foundation in Commerce, STPM, Pre-U, A-Level, UEC or equivalent.

The College has also made twinning arrangements with the University of Bolton, UK to offer the BSc (Hons) Computing programme. The University is UK’s newest university and have received accolades from the Guardian Newspaper and have topped the table of percentage increases of applications to all UK universities last year.

“Other popular Programmes are our Diploma in Business Administration, Accountancy, Computer Studies and Marketing. The Diploma articulates into the Bachelor Degree programme of our partner universities,” said Goh.
