SEGi had sent a team of 10 representatives from its colleges from the Klang Valley and Kuching for this highly esteemed conference. The speakers were leaders from various divisions of the Ministry of Health, academicians from local and overseas universities and practitioners. We were impressed by the speakers as it gave us a deeper understanding of the role of nurses today. It is a well thought out arena for practitioners and professional to discuss and share views on nursing practises, education and research,” praised Roswati. “The international nursing research conference has spurred our passion to provide top quality nursing education.” SEGi College offers the Diploma in Nursing, a programme that is approved by the Ministry of Health and the Malaysian Nursing Board. The programme is also approved by the Ministry of Higher Education and Malaysian Qualification Agency. The skills and knowledge that Malaysian educated nurses gain are highly regarded internationally and the nursing profession can open doors to a broad range of opportunities for working overseas. For example nurses are needed in developed nations and in the developing world and according to UN’s World Health Organisation (WHO), ‘”nurses form the largest category of health workers. “What we are serious about in SEGi is ensuring our graduates are industry ready. We work closely with hospitals and clinics to ensure our students get the right practical training and are familiar with procedures by the time they graduate,” added Roswati, who signed a MOA with the Ministry of Health in September 2007 that allowed SEGi nursing students to be given practical training and usage of government hospitals. “ “We aspire to make SEGi a centre of nursing excellence in this region.
