SEGi Named Emerging Star For Its Nursing Programme

10 representatives from SEGi attended the International Nursing Research Conference.

31th March 2008 - SEGi College gets another feather in its cap as it was awarded “The Emerging Star” award of the Excellence Nurse Award from the Nursing Board of Malaysia last month.

“We’re very pleased to receive this award as it denotes potential and quality for SEGi. This award indicates the trust in SEGi’s nursing programme for producing quality nurses,” said Hajjah Roswati bt Rahmat, Director of Regulatory Affairs.

SEGi Group of Colleges started offering the Diploma in Nursing in 2006. Since then, the nursing school has grown rapidly and the colleges have one of the best nursing school facilities in the country.

“When we embark on offering any programmes, we ensure our facilities match the requirements of the programme. We do not cut corners when it comes to investment in the equipment of facilities of the programme as it will effect the quality. We ensure the best possible facilities to produce the best possible graduates,” ensure Roswati.

According to Roswati, SEGi is equipped with simulation wards, skills laboratory, computer labs, multipurpose theatre, practical room, a well stocked library and sporting facilities of swimming pool, gym and squash.

The Excellent Nurse Awards was held at a grand dinner following the International Nursing Research Conference, a 3 day conference held in Kuching, Sarawak. The conference was organised by the Nursing Board of Malaysia themed “Dare to Dream: Beyond the Horizon,” with an aim to generate knowledge and improve nursing practice.

SEGi had sent a team of 10 representatives from its colleges from the Klang Valley and Kuching for this highly esteemed conference. The speakers were leaders from various divisions of the Ministry of Health,   academicians from local and overseas universities and practitioners.

We were impressed by the speakers as it gave us a deeper understanding of the role of nurses today. It is a well thought out arena for practitioners and professional to discuss and share views on nursing practises, education and research,” praised Roswati. “The international nursing research conference has spurred our passion to provide top quality nursing education.”

SEGi College offers the Diploma in Nursing, a programme that is approved by the Ministry of Health and the Malaysian Nursing Board. The programme is also approved by the Ministry of Higher Education and Malaysian Qualification Agency.

The skills and knowledge that Malaysian educated nurses gain are highly regarded internationally and the nursing profession can open doors to a broad range of opportunities for working overseas. For example nurses are needed in developed nations and in the developing world and according to UN’s World Health Organisation (WHO), ‘”nurses form the largest category of health workers.

We work closely with hospitals and clinics to ensure our students get the right practical training and are familiar with procedures by the time they graduate,” added Roswati, who signed a MOA with the Ministry of Health in September 2007 that allowed SEGi nursing students to be given practical training and usage of government hospitals. “
