Philanthropic Students Bring Hope And Joy To The Less Fortunate
According to Brother Kuar Tiam Chai, Manager of Rumah Charis Community Point, the cheque of RM5000 will be used to buy bakery machinery for the centre as they teach older children basic skills in order for them to find work at bakery houses or manufacturing industry. “Rumah Charis Community Point believes in helping people gain independence and a sense of belonging. We are very grateful to the students and staff for sacrificing time and effort in helping to raise funds to help our children,” said Kaur. Students of MSC International College , PRIME College and Summit International College had collaborated to hold a three day Art with a Heart charity event to raise funds for the benefit of Persatuan Kebajikan Warga Tua & Kanak-Kanak Wilayah Persekutuan and Rumah Charis Community Point. Launch by YB Datuk Ong Tee Keat, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, the activities run during the charity event were stage performances by the students, food bazaar and stalls selling the arts and crafts of design students. The event was to showcase the talents of the students who sold their wares for charity. "Art with a Heart" is a unique charity event organised by college students for the first time. A total of 92 students of the three colleges took part in it. Speaking on their experience running this large scale charity event, the staff and students found themselves forging new bonds and strengthening common ties. For the staff, this truly speaks well on what true education is about, not just classes and exams, but in participating oneself in selfless causes with the help and support of peers and students. The staff and students thank all donors who have stepped forward with their help and support. It was definitely a community effort, with many working as one. As the Colleges are part of SEG International Bhd (SEGi), a public listed company on the Bursa Malaysia, SEGi had pledged that it will match every ringgit raised during the charity event. The event collected RM5000 in total, and SEGi had added another RM5000, giving it a total of RM10,000. A cheque presentation ceremony was held recently. Presenting the cheque was Lee Kok Cheng, Chief Operating Officer of SEGi to Vinodt of Persatuaan Kebajikan Warga Tua & Kanak-Kanak Wilayah Persekutuan and Kaur of Rumah Charis Community Point. SEGi was recently rated as Malaysia 's Top 4 Corporate Givers by Malaysian Business magazine. SEGi is serious about playing its part in Corporate Social Responsibility and believes in cultivating a philanthropic nature in its staff and students.
