Creative Arts has a rising popularity in the recent years. This was evident in the SEGi College Creative Arts Showcase, which saw the graduating batch of students showing off their creativity to the industry, which include intending employers, parents, lecturers and friends.

Covering three creative art areas, “MAD” is an acronym that stands for Multimedia, Arts and Design. The “MAD” showcase is a collaborative effort among the students and lecturers, and months of effort were put into setting up the showcase.

“The main purpose of organising the ‘MAD’ is to present our students art works which were done over the passed two and a half years. This is a celebration of their excellent work before they graduate,” said Cynthia Eileen Chin Choon Ching, President of “MAD” showcase.

The “MAD” showcase displays the award winning and outstanding creative design works by the students of Faculty of Creative Art and Design (FOCAD).

“By organising the showcase, we are able to take the first step to exposing ourselves to the creative industry, to network, to learn and to be challenged. It also provides us with the opportunity to communicate with the creative industry to discover job opportunities, gain knowledge and so on,” added Cynthia.

“This year there are 32 graduating students from nine different design faculties, namely Interior Design, Industrial Design, Multimedia, Video & Animation, Graphic Design, Advertising, Photography, Performing Arts & Music,” said Cynthia.

The “MAD” showcase was officiated by the Senior Director Group Marketing of SEGi College, Mr. Bruce Lim, and judging from the enthusiastic crowd that packed the hall, the showcase was indeed a success.

“We are surprised by the tremendous response that we get from the public, representatives from the advertising firms and interior design industry also came to the opening. We are happy to know that our art works draw attentions,” said Cynthia.

SEGi College’s Faculty of Creative Arts & Design (FOCAD) has strong ties with the creative industry. This adds value to the learning experience of its students. Students are exposed to the “real world” issues through field trips organised by the faculty.

The faculty also organises the popular “Guest Lecturer Series” that feature well known personalities from large and medium sized agencies and companies from the industry such as BBDO, SI design and Unrealmind Interactive.

“Students are also encouraged to collaborate in projects with industry leaders, the ‘MAD’ Showcase is a way to connect the students to the industry,” said Cynthia.

SEGi College’s Faculty of Creative Arts & Design was set up to be the premier centre for media, art and design education in Malaysia.
