SEGi Receives Government Award For Youth Development
Pahamin, who is also chairman of Air Asia, said: “This is another positive milestone for us and we will continue to achieve excellence and contribute towards the nation’s social progress.” SEGi’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dato’ Clement Hii said his organisation was honoured to be recognised for its efforts and role in promoting and carrying out the aims of the government in youth development. “Most of our students are young people and it has always been part of our culture to promote healthy activities and programmes for youths.” Hii added that his company took its corporate social responsibility (CSR) very seriously. “We appreciate the fact that from among the hundreds of big names in the corporate sector, we have been singled out for the special award.” SEGi sets aside about RM10 mil annually worth of scholarships and bursaries to provide opportunities for Malaysian youths to obtain access to higher education and training. In a recent feature article by Malaysian Business, SEGi was ranked 4th among the top corporate givers in a survey that covered all public listed companies, behind Maxis, Public Bank and Shell. The Group’s colleges also provide value-added features to its academic programmes by designing additional curriculum in character building and entrepreneurship, as well as providing job placement for its graduates. It recently launched a Career Exploratory Programme (CEP), which is a formal collaboration between SEGi and hundreds of industry players. Under the scheme, SEGi students are offered internship in companies while still studying, to prepare them for the workplace once they graduate. SEGi aims to strike a fine balance between business and social responsibilities. “SEGi as a public-listed company needs to deliver positive financial results to its shareholders and other stakeholders, but on the other hand, we must be aware of the educational needs of the less fortunate, more so when we are educational institutions ourselves”, Hii said. Hii added: “However, we derive great satisfaction from recognition of our role, such as this Special Award, as well as the success achieved by our graduates.” For more information, call SEGi College Malaysia (03-6145 2777) or campuses located at Subang Jaya (03-86001888), Kuala Lumpur (03-20702078), Petaling Jaya (03-78757118), Penang (04-2633888), Sarawak (082-252566) and SEGi College of Technology (03-20722536), email to askme@segi.edu.my or log on to www.segi.edu.my
