There is a saying that charity begins at home, but should not stay there. Indeed it has gone beyond the homes of the students of Systematic Information Ambassadors Committee (SIAC) of Systematic College , PJ as they organise a charity concert, entitled Journey of Love - A Cultural Blend Through Music.

Launched by YB Dato Ir. Donald Lim Siang Chai, Deputy Minister of Information, the event is to benefit the charity organisation, Persatuan Kebajikan Anak-anak Yatim Agathians Petaling Jaya, Selangor (Agathians Shelter), which is raising money for a building fund for the orphanage.

“We are grateful for the support of the Ministry of Information in our charitable cause. As students, we believe that charitable deeds are not only limited to corporations or the wealthy only, but to those with compassion for the underprivileged. A charitable event to raise funds for Agathians Shelter to purchase their own premises is a worthy cause not only for us, but for the public to be involved in,” said Inthira, President of the SIAC.

“This is the first time an event of this large of scale is organised by the students with the assistance of the student advisors. The success of this show will reflect the hard work and enthusiasm of the College and its sister colleges and training centres under SEGi group,” said Inthira.

“Since this event comes from the heart for the underprivileged children, we hope that all Malaysians will also share our enthusiasm and support this cause by buying tickets and attending the concert”, said Inthira.

The concert is also in need of sponsors which we hope to get from corporate organisations. All proceeds will be channelled directly to Agathians Shelter.

The Agathians Shelter (AS) nurtures 15 boys who are orphaned, have been abandoned, are from single parent and broken families. The boys are between 4 and 15 years old.

The aim of the home is to give the boys as normal as possible a childhood and living which was not experienced in their prior situation. The home strives to provide the boys with additional tutoring to catch up on years of missed schooling. The home also conducts a Character Building Programme to groom and polish the boys' character and personality.

“We appreciate SIAC's endeavour in assisting us to make our dreams a reality with this charity concert to raise funds for our own premises,” said Mr.Sivabalan, founder of Agathians Shelter.

Although the main intention of the Journey of Love charity concert is to raise funds for the Agathians Shelter, it also aims to rekindle the love for the cultural diversity of Malaysia .

The charity concert promises a blend of cultural performances from traditional performances to more modern, fusion shows. The concert will be a 3 hour non-stop musical extravaganza which promises to have the crowd cheering for more.

“No exercise is better for the human heart than reaching down and lifting another up”. Take part in this noble cause to meet the foremost objective of raising funds for an orphanage home.

The Journey of Love concert will be staged at Badminton Stadium Kuala Lumpur, Cheras on 12 th November 2005 , Saturday, at 6pm .

Tickets for the musical are priced at RM 50, RM 70, and RM100 (VIP). Seats are limited to only 3000 for the show. For information, contact Siva 0122968014 or AS 03-79541680.
