Public Lectures And Seminar/Workshop By Professor Emeritus Joseph Arditti, A Leading Orchid Expert

Professor Emeritus Joseph Arditti of the University of California , Irvine , has kindly agreed to present two public lectures and one seminar/workshop on orchids. One public lecture is entitled “ The Ethnobotany of Orchids .” During this lecture, Professor Arditti will share with the audience his expertise on how orchids are or have been used by different cultures. He will cast some light on several of the many uses of orchids, apart from their use as a fancy gourmet food item as reported recently in Singapore . In addition to his scientific interest in orchids Prof. Arditti also follows their "participation" in mystery and science fiction novels, comics, music, advertising and other “adventures.” In the second public lecture, entitled “ Orchids in Murders and Space ,” Professor Arditti will share his findings in these areas and describe the different ways in which orchids were used or have "participated" in some very unusual activities. |
In the second event, Professor Arditti will lecture on in vitro propagation of orchids through tissue culture techniques and seed germination procedures. In this seminar/workshop, entitled “ Tissue Culture Propagation and Seed Germination of Orchids ” Professor Arditti will elaborate on the different methods used by orchid breeders and propagators to multiply horticultural orchid hybrids for commercial purposes and endangered species of orchids for both conservation and trade.
