SEG International Group (SEGi)’s Centralised Examinations Department (CED) has once again achieved the ISO9001:2000 Quality Management System certification. SEG International Group owns and manages 2 prominent groups of colleges, the Systematic Group and PRIME Group.

The ISO certificate is renewed for another 3 years, July 2005- July 2008.

The CED’s first ISO certification was a 3 year certification awarded for July 2002-July 2005, making SEGi the first private higher education group to receive the highly coveted award.

“SEGi’s centralised examination department is 100% compliance and no non-conformities being raised,” said M S Rajendran, SNR Technical Representative and Lead Auditor from ABS Consulting during the audit session last month.

Emeritus Professor Joseph Arditti from the prestigious University of California, Irvine in the United States, gave his observation during the ISO audit session. “I applaud SEGi’s CED efforts in maintaining the academic standards of their students.”

“Their endeavor for world-class quality academic standards is admirable for Malaysia. Let this be an example for other private college to strive for and follow,” said Arditti.

“Their (CED) management system is at par with most international universities and exceeding some others,” adds Arditti. “This achievement demonstrates education at its best.”

Arditti is one of the international moderators of the CED. The CED is governed by a selected impartial council. Sitting on the examination board are chiefs of local universities and other leading international universities.

“We are very proud of the Centralised Examination Department achieving this renewal of the ISO certification,” said Dr. Wong Boon Kwei, Director of Operation of SEGi.

“Our purpose of having a Centralised Examination Department is to ensure that the academic requirements of local and international standards are maintained through proper audit and check-and-balances,” said Dr. Wong.

“It is not a requirement for private higher education institutions to have an exam department. Exam departments are only usually found in universities,” explains Dr. Wong. “However, with two giant education groups – Systematic and PRIME, located throughout Malaysia, we thought it was logical to have a centralised examination department to monitor and regulate the examination procedures of all colleges and centres.”

All college and centres under SEGi must adhere to the regulations and standards of the CED. This stringent exercise is to ensure that there is no confrontation and doubtfulness in regards to the integrity and quality of the education.

Systematic Group and PRIME Group provides programmes ranging from certificate to diploma level and courses by international partner universities.
