The Institute of Motor Industry (IMI) Malaysia awarded SEGi Training Centre, Seri Kembangan as an approved assessment centre. The IMI is the professional body for people employed in the motor industry.

Mr. John W. Young, Managing Director of IMI Malaysia said, “Awarding SEGi Training Centre as an approved assessment centre is a good step towards increasing the quality of employees of the motor industry in Malaysia . The training centre is fully equipped with the necessary facilities, equipment, and the trainers are well qualified for the programme. STC is a reliable and dependable institute of training and development.”

With the capacity of 1,500 student, SEGi Training Centre (STC) focus is on competency based training. A centre under the SEGi Education Group, the group has been offering vocational training since 1986. SEGi has trained over 5,000 youth in various fields including hotel management, computer, engineering and many others. 20% out of the 5,000 are youth who took the Automotive course.

Receiving the award from Young are SEGi's Chief Operating Officer, Lee Kok Cheng, and Director of Training Services, Annuar Zamzury Jolis.

“There is increasing demand for qualified employees for the motor industry. Our decision to work together with IMI demonstrates our resolution in ensuring that our graduates meet the quality and standards of international car manufacturers,” said Annuar.

According to Annuar, s tarting from January 2007, SEGi will make a big move by offering dual certification, SEGi and IMI certification, to students who are undergoing the Automotive course. The dual certification will strengthen their graduates' qualification and acceptance by employers of the industry. “We are also hoping to organise a motivational programme for the Alumni members of SEGi Training in order to upgrade their certification by gaining the certification from IMI.”

“Having the partnership with IMI supports our graduates not only at local level, but international as well,” added Annuar.

“The IMI certificate is internationally recognised,” echoed Young. “The IMI is established in the UK , with 25,000 individual members, from across all areas of the motor industry, who are recognised for their skills and experience. IMI membership is awarded on the basis of an individual's qualifications, career history and motor industry experience.”

“I urge employers of the motor industry to treat STC as a bank of human resources as their training programmes are updated to the latest technology of the industry,” added Young.

During the ceremony, the IMI awarded 6 trainers of SEGi Training Centre (STC) as Fellow Members.

Other vocational training centres under the SEGi Education Group are located in Kuala Lumpur , Subang Jaya, Petaling Jaya, Pulau Pinang and Kuching, Sarawak .
