August 2008 - KUCHING: SEGi College Sarawak’s students proved that hard work will pay off when they scored distinctions in their respective A-Level examinations.

Evelyn Tan Yee Lin, Kevin Liew Tze Ming and Sim Shu Horng all chalked up distinctions in the Edexcel A-Level Law and Liew went a step further to snare another distinction in Business Studies Unit 2.

Another student who also achieved double distinction is Charles Ting Jing Shing. He attained his high scores in Business Studies Units 1 and 2.

The fifth A-Level student Shally Heng Wek Yee gained her distinction in Business Studies Unit 2. All five students were each presented with an Outstanding Achievement Award.

“Our other students also performed well for this intake,” said Datu Haji Putit Matzen, SEG International Group Vice President, after presenting the Outstanding Achievement Awards to the students who scored the distinctions.

“We are most pleased with their results. All these students excelled because they used their resources to the fullest and they put in extra time to study hard for their examinations well in advance.

“Many of our students have proven to be exceptional achievers time and time again.”

These A-Level students, he said, have done the college proud, urging them to proceed in their respective degree programmes with this continued drive for success and excellence.

Hard work and a good education will serve as very good foundation for success in their careers, he said, adding: “These students are potential future millionaires.”

Meanwhile, all five students said there was no real secret to getting distinctions for their A-Level and offered this advice: “Spend your study time effectively to prepare for your examination and attend your respective classes.

“Give your full attention to your lecturers as they have the information that will not only help you pass but also to score well.”

Liew, on behalf of the five distinction holders, said that he and his fellow classmates spent months in the library preparing for the exam.

Those who leave their preparation to the last minute are usually those who will not do well.

The five students also thanked their lecturers for their dedication and for spending extra time to give them additional attention during the lead up to the examinations.

The start of class for A-Level is September 2nd, 2008 and students who wish to gain entry into universities of their choice can still enroll for the course.
