SEGi Opens Doorways to Higher Education

Cheerleading is one of the activities which build students’ self-confidence and character

4 December 2009

It’s time again. Hundreds of thousands of students who have just finished sitting their SPM examinations are now faced with difficult life-changing questions – “What do I do next? Should I wait for my results to see if I have a chance to enter public university? Should I just enrol in a private college? Which course should I choose?”

Before these questions can be answered, some consideration must be given to a few matters such as interest, parents’ financial capability, education options and availability of other financial support.

First of all, SPM leavers must ask themselves from the bottom of their hearts, “What am I most interested in?” The answer could be a subject, a specific career, an industry or even something general like ‘helping people’ or ‘earning a lot of money’.

Let us be fair and admit that studying without any interest or clear purpose is just plain torture. On the other hand, studying with direction or interest makes it a breeze when understanding subjects and scoring A’s. Starting on the right note will save students and parents a huge amount of money and time in the long-run.

Once you have successfully pinned down exactly what you want in life, you can narrow down options as to what to study that could fulfil your ambitions. Next, find out which college offers these courses and whether they open up to wider chances to educational progression.

If you choose a private college, you can either start with a Foundation programme in Science or Commerce, or you can begin with a diploma programme, depending on your SPM results. Upon completion of this level, you can then proceed to a degree programme.

When it comes to diploma and degree programmes at SEGi Group of Institutions, students are spoiled for choice. Programmes offered range from business to accountancy, creative arts to early childhood education, engineering to information technology, nursing to hotel management and tourism.

Not only that, they can choose from up more than 10 higher education institutions with which to take up their degree. SEGi constantly looks into collaborations with institutions which can offer the best degrees to its students.
