Fresh graduates frequently seek an edge over thousands of other graduates each year, when they compete to get jobs. In response to the demand for career ready graduates, SEGi Group of Colleges has formed a collaboration with hundreds of its valued corporate partners, to offer thousands of practical training opportunities for its graduates or students who are about to graduate.

The scheme, known as the Career Exploratory Programme (CEP) was officially launched by YB Datuk Ong Tee Keat, Deputy Minister of Higher Education recently.

Present to witness the launch of CEP were Lee Kok Cheng, Chief Operating Officer of SEG International Bhd and Principal of SEGi College Subang Jaya, and Simon Si, Vice President Marketing and Business Development of Jobstreet.com.

“CEP gives students the opportunity to roll up their sleeves and have hands-on experience of the real working world. Our students are able to feel what it is like to work with some of the best companies in the country and the world. What’s more they may earn while they learn,” Lee explained.

The objective of the programme is to provide an added advantage for SEGi graduates to stand out in the competitive job market, and be recognised by potential future employers.

“We are also honoured and excited to have Jobstreet.com, a leading recruitment portal, to be working as our partner in the CEP programme. Jobstreet.com will power the CEP micro website by matching the students with the right internship jobs at suitable companies. It will be a synergy between two giants in education and recruitment,” Lee enthused.

The CEP is a natural progression from SEGi’s efforts with its Valued Corporate Partners (VCP), who have traditionally entrusted former to upgrade the qualifications and skills of their staff and family members. Now, these VCPs are looking for talents among SEGi students.

SEGi expects to send its first batch of students for internship within the next one month. The internship position is available on a voluntary basis to final year full-time students studying in most programmes at SEGi College. The interns will undergo their stint at the companies for a period of between three to six months.

Eligible interns may be paid an allowance of between RM300 to RM1000 during their internship period, and successful ones may even be offered a full-time employment by the company upon completion of the CEP and graduation.

“SEGi College is committed to preparing industry driven programmes and career-ready graduates in demand by the industry. SEGi’s students in the campuses nationwide would experience and benefit from the highest standards of teaching and the best of leading edge technologies,” said Lee.

Courses offered in SEGi College cover a wide range of professional skills and knowledge closely based on what the business industry demands and an extensive range of subjects and courses that will help students to master the skills that they need in the working world.

When asked about future plans for CEP, Lee mentioned that the group is looking to develop a system of moderation, audit and certification of the internship process.

SEGi College will be having its Open Day on the 19th and 20th May.
