13 September 2007 - SEGi College campuses in Kuala Lumpur and Kota Damansara were bustling with utter frenzy and excitement as students awaited the arrival of Johnson Wee, the winner of 8TV Project Super Star 2006. Johnson was on a fundraising campaign to collect contributions for the Angel’s Children Home located in Kuala Lumpur.

The fundraising organised by The 8 Unit of 8TV (initiated by Johnson Wee himself and The 8 Unit) is aimed to create public awareness towards the needy children homes and garnering more support and sponsors from the public and private sectors. Children Homes are mostly registered, non-profit organisations that provide care and look after the welfare of needy and impoverished children.

Upon his arrival at SEGi College Kuala Lumpur, Johnson, was swarmed by overjoyed fans, mostly female who were eagerly anticipating his arrival since 9.00 am. Straight out from his vehicle, Johnson was well prepared, armed with a collection box to immediately start fundraising.

“Students brought along their cameras to take photos with Johnson. Some students even dressed up for the occasion. Although showered in his new found popularity, Johnson was very friendly with all the staff and students of SCKL, rarely rejecting any requests for a photo snap or two,” laughed Lawrence Ngu, Deputy Principal of SEGi College Kuala Lumpur.

“YAY!!! I am so happy to have my photograph taken with Johnson. I’ve always adored him in Project Superstar. He is even better looking in person!” screamed a joyous female student in excitement.

“Although Johnson’s visit to SCKL was a short one, but students and staff were able to briefly know this very friendly and generous young man,” said Ngu.

Johnson’s visit to SEGi College, Malaysia in Kota Damansara was equally as frantic. Fans were anxiously lurking at the campus lobby awaiting the slightest glimpse of his arrival. At the sight of his vehicle, fans rushed to the basement and crowded the celebrity, fighting to be amongst the first to welcome him.

“We always welcome charitable organisations to come to our campus for charitable purposes. We try our best to provide them with the basic necessities such as booths and internal publicity to make the charity drive a success,” said Ramesh Pathmanathan, Vice Principal (Operations) of SEGi College, Malaysia.

“We are true to our commitment to perform our Corporate Social Responsibility and are constantly on the lookout for opportunities to give back to the society. By supporting activities such as this, not only are we contributing and supporting noble deeds but also educating and inculcating charitable traits in students,” he added.

“I received an email yesterday from the Student Council, informing me about Johnson’s fundraising campaign to collect donation for Angel’s Children Home. I do not have classes today but I decided to show up anyways. This is such a noble deed. He is truly selfless,” said Gavin, who is currently pursuing his Diploma in Business Administration.

“We took him on a tour of the campus, going into every classroom, introduced John and his purpose at the college. We sure collected a lot of donations from the students, especially the girls. Some went absolutely mad when Johnson entered the classrooms,” added Ling.

“It was fulfilling to be involved in this event because not only did we contribute to the betterment of society and providing for the needy but also because we befriended Johnson,” Ling enthused.
