Opportunity to Complete American Degree Program Locally

30th July 2006 Students currently studying in American Degree Programs now have the opportunity to complete their program without having to leave the country. This is made possible with the 4+0 American Degree Programme (ADP) offered by The Faculty of American Degree Studies at IGS, a member of SEGi Group of Colleges The ADP program feature the Bachelor of Science degree offered in partnership with Upper Iowa University (UIU). Students have the choice of 6 specializations in the popular subject areas such as Management, Psychology, Communication, Financial Management, Management Information Systems, and Marketing. “Our decision to offer the UIU ADP program is advantageous for students wishing to pursue an American program locally,” said Dr. KH Lee from the Faculty of American Degree Studies.

“The UIU ADP program is the only American Degree Program available in Malaysia that may be completed entirely in Malaysia . This will be attractive to students currently pursuing the ADP program as it offers substantial savings in terms of cost, as the students need have to study on campus in the United States .”

The UIU ADP program is recognized and approved by LAN (Lembaga Akreditasi Negara) and the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE).

According to Dr. Chin, the entire ADP program duration is 4 years. Those interested in applying for the program are required to have SPM, O-Levels, GSCE, STPM or A-Levels. Credit transfers from other colleges or universities are also accepted.

Students with credits accumulated in similar ADP program are able to transfer directly into the third and final year of the Upper Iowa University Bachelor Degree program.

As mentioned earlier, students have the choice to complete their degree locally or they may opt to go on campus to study at UIU's campus or on more than 70 universities in the US , Canada and other countries. This flexibility offered is attractive to many ADP students.

The curriculum, based on liberal arts philosophy, requires students to take courses from a wide range of areas, ensuring a broad educational foundation. More than 70 different subjects in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, communicative skills and mathematical skills are taught by top-notch faculty comprising local and foreign lecturers.

Another unique feature of the program, according to Dr. Chin, is that it provides a great deal of flexibility such as number of subjects per semester and semester payments. “The assessment method is also a winning point as students are graded 60% on continuous assessment and 40% on exam.”

Upper Iowa University was established in 1857 and is the largest private university in Iowa . It is located in the city of Fayette in the scenic Volga River Valley of northeast Iowa . UIU is a liberal arts institution of higher learning offering quality baccalaureate degree programs.

The University of accredited by The Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association. It is approved by the Louisiana Higher Education Board, the Wisconsin Educational Approval Board, and the Iowa Department of Education.
