tmnet hotspot is based on the IEEE 802.11b technology, better known as Wi-Fi. IEEE 802.11b is an international standard from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) for wireless local area networks that operates up to 11Mbps. It has a range of between 50 to 300 meters from the access points. Wi-Fi has rapidly become a worldwide standard for wireless local area networks at homes, offices and public places. A wireless local area network (WLAN) is a cellular computer network that transmits and receives data with radio signals instead of wires. Wireless LANs are used increasingly in both home and office environments, and public areas such as airports, coffee shops and universities. Innovative ways to utilize WLAN technology are helping people to work and communicate more efficiently and increasing mobility because the absence of cabling and other fixed infrastructure has proven to be beneficial for many users. With the latest deployment of this wireless technology, SEGi College Subang Jaya staff and students are now able to use laptop, PDA or tablet PC - wirelessly - from any of our hotspot locations in the building. Without cables, additional phone lines, or complicated networking hardware, wireless LAN enables several users to be online at the same time, simultaneously surfing different web sites, accessing e-mail and swapping files through a single Internet service account. Files can also be transferred from one computer to another up to 100 feet away with no floppy disks required. Your Benefits |
