Manjeevan Singh Seera certainly carved a milestone in his life, taking a step closer to his dreams when he graduated ahead of his course mates as the sole First Class Honours Graduate from the University of Sunderland BEng (Hons) Electronics and Electrical Engineering class.

The proud son of Harpajan Singh, Manjeevan follows the lead of his father who is also involved in the Engineering field. “I’m currently attached to the site engineering department at Flextronics, an EMS (Electronic Manufacturing Services provider) company in Penang. My father is a Masters Degree holder from the University of Nottingham and he is a senior lecturer in Electrical Engineering (Power) in one of the local Universities. My mother is a housewife and my sister is in the midst of completing her medical degree,” explained Manjeevan.

Commenting on the secret of his success, Manjeevan said that he could not have managed working and studying at the same time if not for tedious and careful planning.

“I started working immediately after obtaining my engineering Diploma in 2005. A year in, I decided to pursue an engineering degree and enrolled for the weekend classes at SEGi College in 2006. At work, I commit 100% of my attention to the job at hand and likewise, during my weekend classes, I pay full attention during lessons,” he elaborated.

Manjeevan added that he does revisions in the evenings on weekdays after work. “I do constant revisions every evening after work because I found that constant revision and working on the past-year examination questions helps me retain the information I have studied. I do not wait until the last minute to open my books before the exams.”

Overjoyed with his achievement, Manjeevan confessed that he did not expect the award. “I had expected to do fairly well, given the amount of preparation I put in, but I must say that getting a First Class Honours degree was beyond what I had hoped for. I was really thrilled when I first saw my results on UOS website. I am also very grateful that my hard work and perseverance paid off.”

He added, “My heartfelt love and gratitude goes to my family for their love, encouragement and belief in me. Special thanks to my fantastic project supervisor, all the wonderful lecturers at SEGi, the helpful staff at UOS, my friends who help keep me cheerful during the times when the pressures of work and studies got to me, and last but not least, my bosses and colleagues who were supportive of my studies.”

Equally overjoyed with his achievement, father Harpajan said, “We are very happy that all the hard work over the past year paid off. Manjeevan has always been an obedient and disciplined son. We are so proud of him. What more could any parent ask for than to see our children successful?”

He continued, “We wish and hope the best for Manjeevan in the future. Never give up in pursuing your dreams, continuing your studies, having a great career and never forget to give back to the society. Most importantly, we wish our children to live the happiest and most fulfilling of lives as what we are privileged to have.”

Asked about the programme modules and his experience taking the programme, Manjeevan said that it was especially beneficial because he was able to put to practice at work what he studied.

Manjeevan is hopeful to pursue a PhD in Electronics and Electrical field later. “I always believe that we should have full faith in ourselves and what we have set out to achieve - whether they are personal or professional goals. We should also be diligent and apply our best efforts when doing anything.”
