19th October 2007 - SEGi Group of Colleges, the country’s largest private education provider has opened its representative office in India. The office, currently based in city of Ahmedabad in the state of Gujerat was set up in collaboration with its Indian partners. The representative office marks SEGi’s foray into India in the areas of student recruitment and to establish possible academic collaborations.

The partnership was recently sealed through a signing of a memorandum of agreement at SEGi’s new flagship campus at Kota Damansara. The signing between Dr Wong Boon Kwei, Deputy Principal (Academic) and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and IT at SEGi College, Malaysia and Anand Sandil, SEGi’s partner in India signified the commitment of the two parties in creating and bringing better opportunities for students from India to obtain excellent tertiary education. Anand Sandhil is designated as Director of SEGi International Representative Office.

According to Wong, “The partnership today signifies our commitment to provide quality education to everyone, irregardless their background. We also aim to further boost Malaysia reputation as an international education hub as envisioned in the 9th Malaysian Plan by our honourable Prime Minister.”

He added, “This is one of the many international marketing efforts we take to establish our presence and strengthen our brand name overseas, in this particular case, India. We hope today’s collaboration will be able to substantially increase the number of international student enrolment in to our campuses.”

“This is a very good opportunity for us to do our part in providing a breakthrough for youths in India to enjoy the benefits of studying in an esteemed institution such as SEGi College. What is appealing is the fact that students are able to obtain an international qualification right in Malaysia, at a fraction of the costs in which they will otherwise incur if they were to study in the UK, Australia or USA. We are indeed very excited to embark on this journey of long-term partnership and hope to bring lots of students from India to study in SEGi,” Sandil echoed.

He added, “Malaysia is very well known for its beautiful landscape and people. It is a prominent tourism destination. This collaboration will enable us to promote Education Tourism, which is to promote Malaysia as the ideal destination for tourism and also education.”

The role of SEGi’s India representative office is to promote the leading Malaysian institution and its courses, particular those offered in partnership with its consortium of global universities from the UK, Australia and the US. The India Office will also establish a network of India agents that will further extend SEGi’s reach into the Indian continent.

It plans to expand its network to the cities of Nagpur, Delhi, Bangalore, Punjab and Mumbai within the next 1-2 years.

“SEGi College offers a multitude of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes which will appeal to many students from India. Perhaps the most sort after would be programmes in the fields of engineering, and postgraduate programmes,” Sandil added.

SEGi College Malaysia at Kota Damansara is ready to accommodate international students at its new campus. As one of the few full-fledge campuses within the Klang Valley, the college boasts state-of-the-art learning facilities, sports and recreational facilities and on-campus hostels.

“We have over 300 hostel rooms reserved for international and outstation students. The hostels are in 2 blocks, 1 for female students and the other for male students. All rooms are fully air-conditioned with common rooms and bathrooms,” shared Wong. “The price per person is at a reasonable rate.”

If one prefers to live off campus, there are many houses or condominiums for rent close to the campus and within walking distance. The College is also strategically located close to the NKVE highway which is an hour drive to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, close to shopping malls, hypermarkets, hospitals, clinics, banks and shops.

Students also get to enjoy the sports and recreational facilities at the new campus. Equipped with swimming pool, squash courts, table tennis, and basketball courts, students can organise tournaments or games with friends.

SEGi College is one of the leading private higher education and training providers in Malaysia. For 30 years, SEGi College has produced more than 300 First Class Honours graduates of outstanding performances in the fields of engineering, business, accountancy, finance and computing.

“Our Group offers over 100 programmes, and in the pipeline are programmes health sciences and build environment. We are also looking to have courses in the disciplines of bio-medicine, bio-technology, dentistry, pharmacy, quantity surveying, architecture, construction and project management,” said Wong.

In addition to its promise of quality and industry driven programmes, the Colleges have also incorporated the Career Exploratory Programme (CEP) and the SEGi Leadership Centre (SLC) to ensure that students are career-ready by the time they graduate.
