SEGi and CTHCM Collaborates To Provide Industry Recognised Hotel Management and Tourism Programmes

18 May 2007 SEGi College together with the Confederation of Tourism, Hotel & Catering Management (CTHCM) launched the Hotel Management Tourism programme today. The launch was officiated by YB Datuk Donald Lim Siang Chai, Deputy Minister of Tourism.

CTHCM’s Regional Manager of South East Asia, Joseph Hii presented the certificate of collaboration to Y Bhg Datuk (Dr) Patrick Teoh Seng Foo, President of SEG International Bhd.

SEGi Group of Colleges is one of the largest private tertiary education providers in Malaysia with 30 years of experience in offering degree and diploma programmes in areas of business and accountancy, engineering and information technology, creative arts and design, education and social sciences, nursing and American Degree Program.

CTHCM works with approved centres worldwide and is acknowledged and endorsed by leading hotel and travel industry organisations, such as Star Alliance and Virgin Atlantic Airways,” added Teoh.

The service industry relies heavily on human resources and man power and it can be considered as one of the world biggest and fastest sector that provides huge employment opportunities and the hospitality industry is one of the largest industries in the world.
“Hotel management would be a great choice for those who want to get jobs right after they finish their studies,” said Teoh.
The Diploma in Hotel Management aims to provide students with a broad understanding of the operational aspects of the international hotel industry, and a knowledge of the underlying principles involved.

CTHCM was established in 1982 to provide recognised standards of management and vocational training appropriate to the needs of the hotel and travel industries, via its syllabi, examinations and awards.

CTHCM is the only established specialist professional body in the UK focusing on the training needs of new entrants to the hospitality and tourism industries.

“Malaysians are naturally hospitable people and the education system is first rate. But specialist management training will help maximize this immense potential,” said Joseph Hii of CTHCM.

“Now, through this exciting new CTHCM and SEGi partnership we aim to build on this by adding a wider international dimension to the College’s programmes. The force of globalization is bringing new challenges and opportunities to the hospitality and tourism industries and it is our joint aim to ensure that SEGi graduates are best equipped to succeed in this globalised environment,” added Hii.

The subjects that students need to take under CTHCM are Food and Beverage Operations, Food Hygiene and Nutrition, Front Office Operations, Facilities and Accommodation Operations, Hospitality Finance, Introduction to Business Operations, Marketing and so on.
SEGi College’s Diploma in Hotel Management is recognised by the National Accreditation Board (LAN) and the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE).
