The first batch of Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) students at SEGi University College sat for their CEH examination just last month. The CEH commands a very high passing mark, which is 70%!

During the 5-day course, students had to cover a whopping 67 topics in the module on top of putting into practice what they learnt in-situ. It is no wonder then that only 8 of the 16 students who enrolled passed to earn this unique certificate.

They are Jacqueline Toh, Liong Chee Yung, Ng Guan Qun, Bryan Chia, Law Wai Kar Dawa, Aaron Rozario, Jorinda Wong Yuh Ru and Chia Yong Kang. Some of them are currently doing their diploma and some their degree in either IT or Engineering at SEGi University College.

Law Wai Kar Dawa, who is currently in his first year of the BSc (Hons) in Applied Business Computing, testifies the advantages of taking the course: “Having the CEH certificate, knowledge and skills will give me a leading edge in the IT field. What is taught in this course is not covered in any other normal IT programme, and IT security is a new and in-demand area now.”

“I really enjoyed the course. The trainer made the lessons very interesting and fun because of his charisma and passion for the subject. Mr Rachdianto is also very experienced and I can see he has a lot of expertise in this area,” said Aaron Rozario, Diploma in IT.

“This course is also conducted in a very practical way because we apply whatever that’s learnt on the spot. I might end up pursuing a career related to IT security in future once I’ve finished my studies.” he added.

The other students who earned the certificate had no IT knowledge whatsoever. They are from the Faculty of Engineering who enrolled out of interest and curiosity, but after completing the course they realized there was more to IT than meets the eye.

Jacqueline Toh, currently pursuing the Sunderland BEng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering, said “This course isn’t just about ethical hacking. It also trains critical thinking especially for making rational and objective decisions.”

Ng Guan Qun, currently pursuing the Sunderland BEng (Hons) in Electronic & Electrical Engineering, finds that the CEH is like a concise and express passport into the IT field because it covers the basics of computing.

“The CEH can help me enter the IT sector directly instead of me having to spend too much time learning general IT. Actually I have a friend who is already working in IT security and he told me all about this field. That’s how I realized from early on that CEH is extremely useful for my future,” explained Guan Qun.

The Certified Ethical Hacking (CEH) course conducted by EC-Council, a leading IT security certification body in the Asia Pacific, trains one to think like a hacker to beat a hacker. Apart from the CEH, EC-Council also offers Computer Hacking Forensic Investigator and EC-Council Certified Secure Programmer courses.
