6th May 2007KUCHING: Studying in Sarawak does not mean that students cannot excel in international standard academic studies.

On the contrary, one student not only showed that Sarawakians are intellectual but also proved that with hard work and support from SMRC Learning Alliance Sdn Bhd (SMRC), they can stand to win top awards.

Felix Ng Sze Teck, who graduated last year, has been recognised for his achievements when he was selected as the Best Graduate in the Master of Business Administration (MBA) in 2006 by the University of Southern Queensland, Australia..

Only two such worldwide awards were given out last year. The other award went to an Australian student studying on Campus in Australia.

“This means that Felix was one of the two top students in the MBA programme offered by the University,” said SMRC Senior Manager, Recruitment and Marketing, Raymond Chai.

“Considering that he has to compete with Australians and other international students on Campus and abroad, this achievement is incredible. The University has over 26,000 students including 7,500 international students from more than 120 countries.”

SMRC serves as a recruitment and support centre for the University of Southern Queensland, Australia.

Ng was also awarded full membership into the Graduate Management Association of Australia Inc in recognition of his achievement.

“In addition, he found a windfall of AU$250, which is the cash prize offered by the association to the top MBA student,’ said Chai.

“Such an achievement did not come as a surprise since this adult student was SMRC’s  Student of the Year for 2005 in recognition of his excellent results in Part 1 of his MBA programme.”

Ng, when presented with his latest award and the Graduate Management Association of Australia membership, said he was pleasantly surprised by the gesture of the University and the association.

“I would recommend others to do the programme,” he said, adding that the experience and knowledge they would attain would benefit them.

The MBA programme offered by USQ has 12 specialisations, namely Information Systems, E-Business, International Business, Business Law, Accounting, Human Resource Management, Personal Financial Planning, Leadership, Finance, General Management, Marketing and Project Management.
