Petaling Jaya, May 8, 2008 – A total of 39 were awarded scholarship via the 8TV Scholarship Fund worth RM 1, 000, 000 here today.

The RM 1, 000, 000, 8TV Scholarship Fund is an effort to give back to the community by nurturing deserving young Malaysians scholars.

Through this fund, students receive scholarships to cover tuition fees for undergraduate degree, diploma and foundation level courses covering various disciplines.

8TV together with SEGi first introduced the 8TV Scholarship Fund in 2006 with a fund valued at RM 300,000 and had supported nine deserving students to pursue diploma or degree programs. In 2007, the fund was increased to RM 800, 000 and was given as scholarships to 21 students.

Encik Ahmad Izham Omar, Chief Executive Officer of 8TV said,”8TV is very proud and honoured to be able to award this scholarship fund to these students. I am pretty sure that all of them deserve the scholarship and I hope that this will motivate them to excel and succeed further in their studies,”

Aside from this, we are also very pleased to have had the chance to work with SEGi for these 3 years.  SEGi has been giving tremendous support in educating and nurturing the young minds of Malaysia and has established a great environment for students,” added Izham.

With the increase in number of applicants that we have received this year, it is evident that more and more students are looking for opportunities to further their studies and this determination that is shown by them has encouraged us to continue this effort. The students awarded were selected from a pool of academic achievers with great extra-curricular background.” said Izham.

Dr. Tan Beng Cheok, Senior Vice President (Academics), SEG International Berhad said “The SEGi Group of Colleges is pleased to once again work with 8TV to award deserving students the 8TV scholarship. We have for many years worked with many organisations to discharge our social responsibility and what could be a better way than to assist in the investment of educating deserving Malaysian youths who need financial support to study,

The 8TV Scholarship Fund will cover tuition fees for undergraduate degree, diploma or foundation level programs for successful applicants in courses dealingwith Finance & Accounting, Business & Commerce, Law, Science & Engineering and Human Resources. The scholars have all been offered places at SEGI campuses located in Subang Jaya, Kuala Lumpur, Kota Damansara, Petaling Jaya, Penang, Sarawak and SEGi College of Technology at Kuala Lumpur.

8TV and SEGi jointly selected the scholars from over 1,000 applications received from all over the country. Shortlisted scholarship candidates were then called in for a series of interviews.

Among the 39 students that were selected, one of them has also made a name for herself in the entertainment industry. The petite Nur Shahila Bt Amir Amzah or better known as SHILA who recently passed her SPM was one of the Top 2 finalists in the recent hit singing talent reality show One In A Million. Shila will be pursuing a Diploma in Business Administration.

8TV’s relationship with SEGi College is further strengthened after its former partnership in producing the first job seeking reality show in Malaysia - Please Give Me A Job! last year. The nine-part series featured 10 fresh graduates who were introduced to the real and tough working world, taking on different tasks each week in the hope to get “a job” by the end of the episode.
