| A two-day ‘Reproductive Health Exploration Camp’ (Kem Eksplorasi Kesihatan Reproduktif- KEKR) was held from 19 -20 November 2011 at Hotel Seri Malaysia in Port Dickson. It was organised by the Lembaga Penduduk dan Pembangunan Keluarga Negara (LPPKN) and officiated by the programme supervisor-cum-facilitator, Azni Rosyida binti Ahmad. Eleven students from the Faculty of Nursing, SEGi College Kuala Lumpur, were privileged to be selected to attend the camp. The participants learned the facts about reproductive health and their role as responsible teenagers. The programme included topics on Sex and Gender; Family Love; Sexuality Values and Responsibilities; Am I Ready, Not Me, Not Now; Avoiding Risky Situations, How to Say No; and Life without Violence. Besides creating awareness among participants from various private institutions of higher learning, the objective of the programme was to train the 25 Kafe@TEEN volunteers in running the Life Wellness Module; and to improve their skills in relaying reproductive health information to other young people. It is hoped that through social and reproductive health education, issues related to teenage relationships, illegitimate pregnancies, unwanted babies and involvement in drug addiction can be resolved. Hopefully, with this kind of awareness the youth of today will be able to make informed decisions in life. |
