For the first time in history, a private institution made it into the top 3 of the 6th Malaysian Chem-E-Car Competition 2011. And it was none other than SEGi University College!
The fabulous four from the School of Engineering won 3rd place, beating 30 other teams from 13 renowned public and private universities from Malaysia and Indonesia. Sean Toh Zit Cheng, Ng Yee Hwa, Tan Chin Yen and Sai Hari Ram A/L Barnee formed SEGi’s Chem-E-Car team called Future-Rator; accompanied by their team advisor Mr Cheng Khai Sian (Chemical Engineering lecturer).
Needless to say this is a very proud occasion for the students, their lecturers and SEGi. Today, the annual Malaysian Chem-E-Car Competition is considered to be the most anticipated event in chemical engineering.
Team Future-Rator was announced 2nd runner up at Universiti Technology Petronas at Tronoh, where the competition was held. The team took home a cash prize of USD500 for their innovative alternative fuel car model. The 6th Malaysian Chem-E-Car Competition 2011 is organised by the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM). This competition is a positive platform which aims to provide students from Institutions of Higher Learning the opportunity to showcase their creativity and technical knowledge in the field of chemical engineering through the development of a model car running on alternative fuel.
